In their first home match of the season Walthamstow faced some of the strongest teams in the division, with third placed Ryston, seventh placed Watford, together with Colchester Harriers and Colchester & Tendring making up the opposition.
Unfortunately a weakened Walthamstow team could only manage fourth place behind Ryston, Watford, and Colchester Harriers.
In the 5,000 meters Aziz Lamali competed for the first time this season, getting third place in the fast time of 17.07 for the A string with Roger Attwood running 17.47 for the best time by a Walthamstow runner in the B string this year. The strength of the competition being shown that this only gained third place.
In the sprints James Obili, and Sam Smellie ran the A and B strings of the 100m and 200m respectively gaining valuable points and also making up two legs of the 4x100m relay team. For the 400m Dey Wilson and Ray Middleton gained fifth and third places in 57.6 and 61.5 respectively. Dey beginning his day with a fourth in the B 400m hurdles, and both Dey and Ray making up the 4x400m relay team with James Obili, and Trevor Sloman. James running an impressive 54.6 in his first competition at 400m, with the quartet getting fourth place, the 4x100m team having also come fourth earlier.
Chris OBrien made a welcome return to Southern League competition, winning the B string with a throw of 30.56 despite a bad shoulder, Trevor Sloman taking third place in the A with 30.86. In the Javelin Trevor and Ben Shadbolt could only get fifth and third places in the A and B respectively, despite throwing good distances of 38.00 and 27.70metres.
The Middle distance events saw Rob Pattison and Ray Middleton getting fourth places in the two strings of the 800m, with Dave Humm and Roger Berry earning fourth and third in the A and B 1,500m. In the Steeplechase Roger Berry and Dave swapped strings with Roger fourth in the A and Dave third in the B.
In the Jumps Trevor Sloman and Rob Pattison only managed second place in the two strings of the Pole Vault, the first time they had failed to get two wins, however Trevor won the A Long Jump with Rob third in the B. In the High Jump Trevor and Rob gained third and second places. The Triple Jump saw Dave Humm and Roger Attwood jumping to secure the club a point in this event, with Dave managing to jump further to take the A string, but both only gained a fifth place.
Multi eventers Rob Pattison and Trevor Sloman also competed in the 110m Hurdles getting fourth and third places, and the Shot Put where both placed third. Rob and Roger Attwood had earlier throw the Hammer, securing two fourth places.
