Report and results by Steve Beckett

With the announcement of London winning the Olympic bid for 1012, Forest Athletic combined track team, consisting of members from Eton Manor AC, Orion Harriers and Walthamstow AC were hoping this would spur them on to their 1st win of the season.  After a dour battle throughout the afternoon, the team had to settle for 3rd place, a mere 5.5 points off top spot. There was a lot to like about the teams performances and character today though.  Every point was contested to the end.  Many wins were gained, but due to not having competitors in the Steeple-chase, a good victory was lost.

In the field events, Tom Howell gained 1st place in the Shot with a put of 8.77 metres.  He also went on to finish 4th place in the Hammer(15.45m), 2nd Discus(24.78) and  2nd Javelin (28.43m). Meanwhile, Devon Douglas finished 2nd place in all his events, gaining personal bests in all.  He finished 2nd in the Shot (9.45m), 2nd Discus (23.64m) and also 2nd place in the 110metres hurdles in a time of 23.4 secs. Roger Attwood took 4th place in the Hammer with 14.46 metres, and also 4th in the Javelin with 16.90 metres.  In the Long Jump, B.Milsom won the A string with 5.50 metres, whilst John Mahon had to settle for 3rd B with 4.46 metres.

On the track, there was double wins for Dey Wilson (4:20.1) and J.Thato (4:29.8) in the 1500 metres, as well as a double win in the 800 metres with D.Moses 2:04.4 and Chris Gallagher 2:05.0 respectively. In the 5000 metres, Nick Shasha won the A string with  a time of  16:17.2 whilst S.Joyce had to settle for 2nd place in 16:51.0. In the 110m Hurdles, S.Milsom won the A string race in a time of  21.o secs dead. In the 400 metres, John Linque took 3rd A string with 57.3, whilst A.Asgadom went better by taking the B string win with a time of 53.3 sces.  The 100 metres sprint saw J.Musem and R.Miller take 2nd and 3rd places respectively with 12.2 secs and 12.5 secs. In the 200 metres, K.SHAFIQUE gained 3rd place A with 26.0 secs, whilst David Simosokwe went one better by finishing 2nd B string with 27.4 sces.

The teams day was rounded off with a win in the 4 x 100 metres relay, only to find the were disqualified for a faulty change over.  The team rallied round though to win the 4 x 400 metres in the final event of the day.

The final team positions were 1st Luton with 126 points, 2nd Watford Harriers with 123.5 points, 3rd Forest with 120.5 points and 4th Dagenham 88 with 68 points.  Forest Athletic are looking to strengthen the Boroughs track team, and anyone interested in joining can ring Steve Beckett on 077476-41748 or just turn up at the Walthamstow Pool and Track on Monday eves from 6:30 pm.
