Walthamstow AC scored their first win of the Southern League season at Enfield on July 7. The overall results of this fourth league match were 1st Walthamstow 136 Points; 2nd Enfield and Haringey with 121; 3rd Hastings 110 points; and 4th St Albans 93 points.

Once again multi-eventers Trevor Sloman and Rob Pattison scored vital points. In the Pole Vault, High Jump, and Discus managing to win both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings. Trevor also winning the ‘A’ Javelin, 110 and 400 Metre hurdles, with second place in the Long Jump and third in the Shot put.

Rob Pattison also gained second places in the ‘B’ string 110 Metre hurdles, and Shot, with third position in the ‘A’ Hammer and ‘B’ Long Jump, and fourth in the ‘A’ Triple Jump.

James Obili made his competitive debut in the 100 Metres getting a third place, also getting fourth in the 200 Metres in the fastest time by a Walthamstow athlete this year. He also made up part of the 4x100 Metres relay team with Dey Wilson, John Milsom, and Trevor Sloman, unfortunately due to John pulling a hamstring they could only get fourth place. John Milsom had previously gained second in the ‘B’ 400 and 3rd in the ‘B’ 200 Metres. Ben Shadbolt earned second place in the ‘B’ Javelin with his best throw of the year.

On the track there were double successes in the 5000 Metres and Steeplechase, with Danny Rose and Steve Surridge earning maximum points in the 5000, and Roger Attwood and Roger Berry winning the two strings in the Steeplechase. Roger Attwood having started the afternoon with a third place in the ‘B’ Hammer throw.

In the 1500 Metres Dave Humm and Roger Berry gained second and first places in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings respectively. Dave also competing in the ‘B’ string 100 Metres and Triple Jump scoring valuable points.

The 4x400 Metres relay team of Rob Pattison, Dey Wilson, Ray Middleton, and Trevor Sloman were close behind the winning Haringey and Enfield quartet in 3.45.1. Ray and Dey both having got third places in the ‘B’ and ‘A’ string 800 Metres, with Dey also getting a third place in the ‘A’ 400 Metres.
