The combined Walthamstow, Eton Manor and Orion mens team got their first win of the season after a close struggle with Queens Park Harriers at Hillingdon on Saturday. Several athletes made their first appearances this season helping the team gain crucial points in the field events. Lance Symister won the A string Shot, Discus, Long Jump and Triple Jump, with a second in the Javelin and third in the Hammer throw. Of our veteran competitors Steve Beckett picked up useful points with second places in the Hammer and Pole Vault, and third in the Long Jump and Javelin.
Other competitors making their seasons debuts were Michael Cates with a win in the B 5000metres, James Young winning the Steeplechase and Daniel Moses with a second in the 800metres and a leg of the 4x100metres relay. Andy Ruffy running the Steeplechase for the first time in the 'B' string was rewarded with a winning performance.
Jonathan and Chris Linque were in action for the third match in a row with Jonathan winning the 'B' string 100, 200, and 400 metres, second in the High Jump and running both relays, Chris getting second in the 'B' Discus. Andrew Masella won the 'A' string of the 100, 200, and 400, and ran the final leg of the victorious 4x400 metres relay.
Dey Wilson won the 'A' String of both 800/1500 metres, also running a leg of the 400 metres relay. Roger Attwood contributed a joint first in the 'B' string High Jump and third in the 400 metres hurdles.  Danny Rose won the 'A' String of the 5000 metres and placed second in the B 1500 metres. The relays saw both the 4x100 and 4x400 teams victorious to help the team to a well earned victory. The Teams next match is at home at Walthamstow on the 10th July.

Danny writes - Thanks go to Pam and Steve especially for helping out. There was a definite benefit from the combined teams in this match and I am pleased to say everyone got on really well, which made for a very enjoyable afternoon, even if it did rain at regular intervals!
