A slightly depleted squad from Walthamstow AC secured a convincing second place in the Southern League on Saturday 23 June. The overall results of the third league match were Tower Hamlets 1st with 161 Points; Walthamstow 2nd with 147; West Suffolk 74 points; Verlea 48 points; and London AC with 7 Points.
In the field Belho Atek competed in all the throws getting first place in the ‘B’ string Javelin and Discus, second in the ‘A’ Shot and third in the ‘A’ Hammer throw. Trevor Sloman and Rob Pattison both covered huge numbers of events with Trevor getting wins in the ‘A’ Pole Vault and Javelin, also winning the ‘B’ Shot put, together with second places in the ‘A’ Discus, High Jump, 100 Metres, 110 Metre Hurdles, and 400 Metre Hurdles. Trevor also gained third places in the ‘A’ string Long and Triple Jumps.
Our other multi eventer Rob Pattison was also busy getting First places in the ‘B’ string Pole Vault; Hammer Throw; and 400 Metre Hurdles, with Seconds places in the ‘B’ string: High Jump; Long Jump; and Triple Jump, and third place in the 110 Metre Hurdles.
On the track there were double successes in the 800 Metres, 5000 Metres, and Steeplechase, with Dey Wilson and Ray Middleton securing first places in the 800. Danny Rose and Dave Humm earning maximum points in the 5000, and Roger Attwood and Roger Berry won the ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings of the Steeplechase. Dey also gained third places in the 200 and 400 Metres.
Paul Milsom making his first appearance this season was second in the B string 400 and third in the 200, again being part of the team in both relays. Roger Berry and Dave Humm gained a first and a second in the 1,500 Metres with Dave being outkicked to finish second in the ‘A’ String.
The relays had a depleted team of Dey, Paul, Dave and Roger Attwood competing in both getting fourth in the 4x 100 Metre relay and second in the 4x 400 Metre relay.
