The Club started the new track season in Division 4 East of the Southern Men's League, with a solid third place .We narrowly missed out on second place by a mere 4 match points. The overall results were Luton first with 135 points, Highgate second 126, Walthamstow third 122, and Hertfordshire Phoenix fourth with 81. As expected, fashion journalist's and photographers from Milan were on hand to view the new Walthamstow running apparel. Kit designer Dey {Diego to his close friends} Wilson commented '' the red flash across the black represents to me a vision I had of actually training by myself before breakfast as the sun rose''. His fashion 'friend' Rob said '' runners are a bloody tight lot - what do you expect for £25 ?'' The Batman and Robin duo { Trevor Sloman and Rob Pattison} continued to score a large numbers of points for the club. Trevor winning the 'A' string Pole Vault and 'B' High Jump, with second places in the 110m Hurdles and Discus, and third places in the Long Jump, Shot, Javelin and 400m Hurdles, wrapping up a busy day running in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. Rob Pattison won the 'B' string 400m Hurdles and Pole Vault, picking up second in the 'A' High Jump, and the 'B' string Long Jump, Shot, 110m Hurdles, and third in the 'B' 400 metres. Three members making a welcome return to Southern League competition were Mike Brown in the 400m and relay, Richie McDowell in the 'B' string 100m, Javelin, Discus, and 4 x 100 relay, and Andrew Masella in the 100 and 200 metres and both relays. Richie winning the Javelin with an impressive throw of 36.81m. The long distance events were covered by Danny Rose, winning the 'A' 5000m, and second in the 'A' 1,500metres. Steve Surridge came first in the 'B' 5000, with an encouraging time of 17.00 {knocking 2min 6sec from last seasons best!} Roger Attwood won the 'B' Steeplechase and also triple jumped, Roger Berry earned valuable seconds in the 'A' Steeplechase and 'B' 1,500m. Team manager Dave Humm made a contribution in the 'A' 800m and 'B' Hammer throw, with Terry Wellard showing how years of experience count, by still looking majestic in borrowed shorts and vest for the 'B' 800m. |
