Alan Rich.

  1st Liverpool Marathon, 1st Essex 3000m, London Marathon in 2 hours, 19 minutes, 21 seconds. Personal Bests 3000m 8m 13s, 5000m 14m 26s, 1/2 Marathon 65m 21s.

Arthur Poynter (1924-2008).

In 1955 he competed in the Polytechnic Marathon at Windsor. He came home in 3hours 28mins 8secs. In 116th place. After a quick chat, the race was started by Princess Margaret.Twenty years later, he went to Coventry for the World Veterans Championships finishing in 3hours 28mins! A few weeks after that he went to Ben Nevis, going up was OK, but sliding around in the shale, on his backside coming down, was an quite an experience! The certificate he received after that race addressed him as "A Panier" - he completed this race in 3hours 48mins 42 secs. Arthur sadly passed away in May 2008, may he rest in peace.

Brian Hart.

Won the Sir John Simon Cup with the fastest time in about 1958 he thinks. Won the Miniac-Morvan (over 60s) race in France in 1998.Appeared on the Sports Personality of the year programme with Des Lynam. Finished the London Marathon in 1982. Became the first 'life member' as recognition for being secretary for 96 years.

Clive Ridley.

Caused massive casualties at Waterloo when doing 'breakfast' run carrying his usual white handkerchief. Sent home from the Somme for marking cross country course instead of digging trenches. Awarded medal at Dunkirk for repeatedly charging at the enemy - was in fact doing hill reps. 

 

Danny Rose.

Chingford League overall individual winner in 92/93, 93/94, 95/96. Essex 10km track Bronze (31.52) in 1996 and 2001. Won the Orion 15m CC 1997.

Maureen Hart.

Played Hockey for Northumberland 2nds & Cricket for the Civil Service. Completed 26 mile walk along the Thames and One Mile swimming challenge for charity. Scored 180 with three darts………..

Ray Middleton.

Five times winner of the UK Brewers 400m.  Ran in London Marathon in 1982 and 1983. Fastest time 3hours 08mins.  400m Essex County Champion as a Veteran 1995 and 1997, 2nd in 1993,1994, 3rd in 1998.

Roger Berry.

London Marathon in 1990 in 2hours 44mins. Essex 20 in 1hour 58mins and 800m in 1min 58s. Snowdon Marathon (3hours 18mins) in Force 8 gales! Best times 400m(54s) 800m(1m56s) 1500m 4m12s.

Ronnie Howe.

Southern Counties Junior Cross-Country Champion 1963.  Essex 6 mile Champion in 1962.  Six times winner of the John Simon Cup

Terry Wellard.

9th in the Essex Vets in 1989 and gaining a team third place medal'.
