Loughton 6 mile cross-country 06/10/07 A new season brought fresh optimism, that the summers injuries, beer drinking, barbecuing, holidaying etc, might all have been a bad dream and that the running fitness was just hidden away! But alas poor Yorrick, there is no pleasure without pain and a very overdistance 5 mile CC race certainly brought the summer pains back! So though the 'usual suspects' all ran as well as their fitness would allow, it was good to see new blood turning out, with Winston, Gary and James all making their welcome debuts. The weather was perfect, it was good to see all the Chingford League Club runners back and England beat Australia - all in all, a good day.

Alexandra Palace 5 mile cross-country 27/10/07 For the first time for many years, Alexandra Palace hosted a Chingford League fixture. A complicated short course of 2 laps meant it was a completely new experience for most of the runners. Colin took his rightful place as cross country No.1 in the club and was supported by the evergreen Roger Berry with new boy James again improving and followed up by the Clubs elite marathoner, Ian. Only having 4 scorers meant the Club finished last.

Highams Park 4.5 mile cross-country 15/12/07 Walthamstow were hosts for this fixture and the Club members responded in true "Olympian" spirit by having a large number of marshals plus the biggest team running of the season (so far!). Bitterly cold but dry conditions meant the traditional course was in good shape and all runners seemed to enjoy the race. Colin cemented his postion as Club no.1 with a gas fueled firey performance. He flue round the course to come home 8th out of a field of 122. Danny, Dey, then newcomers Neil and James all acquitted themselves well, with a special guest appearance from Jeff Fowler finishing the team. Garry 'enjoyed' the experience, but regrettably, Ian Russell had to drop out.

Trent Park 5 mile cross-country 12/01/08 Colin led the way again and showed he has matured into the Club's top cross-country man, following in the proud footsteps of Branston, Surridge, Rich, Ridley, Howe and Edna Everage. He is now consistently a 'top-ten' runner and many athletes (particularly those pre-disposed to wearing lycra or the colours of Orion) now avoid races where the big 'C' will be appearing. The course was water-logged and therefore very muddy (even your author was forced to throw the pair of socks away!) and Colin's great effort was supported by Danny, Roger and the improving James. Congratulations to Colin and Fatima from everyone at the Club, with the arrival of little Sofia! They say top athletes generally have Girls (proved by Dey and Roger Attwood!)

Victoria Park 5 mile road race 16/02/08 Colin led the way again, showing he can stay as Club no.1 even with the joy and tribulations of fatherhood. However both Colin and Danny trailed debutante Haroon, who sped off at warp factor 5, only for cosmic dust to eventually slow him down! Once Colin went past Danny, the gap was always close, but Colin always had the edge. Haroon was next home, easily breaking the 30 minute barrier. He was followed heroically by Neil, James, Chris & Bryan, all running bests. Jeff and John also ran well after lengthy lay-offs. Walthamstow would have had 10 runners (plus 3 missing the start) which is the best turn out for many years. Fingers crossed we can maintain this level! Might have been down to the team manager forgetting his glasses, but Chris Peter and Michael Gardner were both missed from the results, not too sure why. Good to see many Walthamstow supporters there as well, lets hope we will see Dave Bamford, Rob Pattison and Chris Winward all pulling on the emerald green vest soon!
