5Km road race 5/10/04
Only nine Walthamstow runners made the start line for the first event of the Winter Chingford League. The weather on the night was good, with the surface only slightly damp from earlier rain, but visibility seemed difficult - possibly slowing the times recorded. Nick made an attacking start and was rewarded with his highest placing - 2nd. Danny finished reasonably strongly for a slowish 5th and Dey faded to a respectable 7th. They were followed by Abraham in 56th, a "jogging" Rob in 90th and John closing the "A" team with 108th. The team finished 6th on the night. The Club Secretary will be ringing round the absentees! |

Loughton 6 mile cross-country 16/10/04 Last season, everyone was turning up and racing because everyone was turning up! This season, it seems our runners are finding reasons not to run because no one else is! The entire Walthamstow team consisted of 2 non-vets and 4 M50 vets! Danny had possibly his best Chingford League run for some seasons, eventually losing out in a sprint for 2nd place. Dey found the going tough, but it was good to see Roger Berry making the top 50 yet again. Bernard, Ian and Bob all got round well to finish strongly if not speedily. |

Chingford 5 mile cross-country 18/12/04 An excellent field of guests meant the start of this race was much faster than usual, consequently most groups of runners how were used to 'normal' starts got fragmented in the rush. Very slippery wet conditions did not help so most people felt they struggled. Not including guests, Danny finished 4th and Dey 18th, though both felt disappointed with their runs. The usual suspects - Jeff, Ray, Ian and John finished off the team yet again. |

Trent Park 5 mile cross-country 22/01/05 The first Chingford League match of 2005 saw another disappointing turnout for Walthamstow. With a lot of 'old reliables' missing, the turnout was possibly the lowest for many years. The overall field was only 155, showing the field was 50 runners shy of the usual size. Last year we were battling Orion for 2nd place, this year we are down in 7th! Danny had a good battle to claim 3rd, Nick got evidence of how spikes are the only shoe to race cross-country in, Roger the Essex +60 vet Champion ran well for 43rd, with Ray and Terry finishing the team. Terry did much better in the pub than the race. We were honoured by the presence of the ex-Walthamstow Superstar Phil Branston - now the reigning Cross Country Clean Socks Champion of Gateshead Tea Ladies Conservative Hard of Hearing Club {Southern Area}. |

Victoria Park 5 mile road race 5/02/05 A cold chill wind greeted the team for this traditional fixture and course {why do I always start with the weather?}, but thankfully the predicted rain did not arrive - an accluded front featuring several high pressure isobars, staying over the Azores. Nick and Danny battled well to run faster than last year, with Nick pulling away over the last 600 metres, showing his marathon exertions are behind him. Dey legs thought they still had ski's attached to them, while the only full time athlete in the Club - Mr Alan Rich showed off his new fitness. Jay, John & Bryan all ran faster than last year. |

5Km road race 1/03/05
A very cold wet and windy night greeted the team for the last road fixture of the Chingford League. Nick could not repeat his glory from the last Eastway fixture, but gave it a go before gradually dropping off the pace. Danny ran ok, finally getting over a cold and Dey turned up. Jay, Mick & Ray ran well in the poor conditions. The Club were 4th on the night, our best for the season. Overall so far we are 7th - last year we just missed out on the runners up spot! Where are the Steve's, the Colin's, the Roger's and the Rob's ????? |
