On a bright sunny day, Danny Rose opened Walthamstow's Chingford League campaign on leg 1. He ran well to claim the overall 3rd fastest time of the day, coming in 5 seconds down on Victoria Parks Jim Roach { overall 2nd fastest }. Steve Surridge continued his comeback, running a solid 13.09 to maintain 2nd place.  Rob Pattison then took over and suffering from the previous nights track session, faded slightly to record 12.43 to finish 3rd. Rob's training partner Dey Wilson maintained 3rd spot with 13.17 before handing over to Dave Humm. The injuries affecting Dave over recent weeks showed as he ran below par { Roger attwood - too modest Sir } but still held onto 3rd spot for the vastly experienced Roger Berry to bring the Club home 3rd in 13.47, Walthamstow's best relay result for many years !

On a mild windy night, the Club had another good turnout with the 'A' team coming 4th overall. Special mention to Steve Surridge who is starting to look and run like the athlete we all know he is, and also Dave Humm storming home in 39th place, a massive improvement from the relays the week before.

The first cross country race of the season saw one of the Clubs favorite athletes return as a guest. Yes, Phil Branston, the Jamie Oliver of the track, made a comeback to racing after a long battle with masculine complaints but alas it was not to be his day. Phil, now a native Geordie could not cope with the classy running apparel being sported by the southern boys and decided to retire after being passed by Danny Rose's latest imported 'lifeboat' orange racing cut doubloons. A slightly depleted squad all performed steadily, but not finishing the 6th man in the first 50 meant the club only managed 7th on the day.

Rain just before the race made the course slippery, but most runners times were better than the October Eastway fixture. Steve Surridge especially made another big leap forward in his comeback season {Steve has run sub 15 minutes for this course} being pushed by Dey Wilson who is also running very well {for two days training a week}. The Club finished 4th on the night, another consistent performance.

On a bitterly cold day, the chosen course was based on the 'old southern' route, a large figure of 8 on the 'Obelisk' side of the park. The ground was frozen in some places plus the recent relatively dry weather meant the going was quite fast. The Walthamstow squad badly missed Rob Pattison, Steve Surridge, Roger Attwood and Kieran Denver, all unable to make the start. With such luminaries missing and several runners performing below par the team result was disappointing.

Surprisingly, no parts of the course were frozen despite the bitterly cold wind and temperatures just above freezing. The traditional course was used consisting of laps of the park, lake, park, lake and park. Danny Rose knows the park well and consequently attacked from the start trying to get through the gates well up. He ran most of the race in 4th or 5th place before pulling into 3rd on the final park lap. Dey Wilson also showed his cross country confidence is building, storming round to finish 20th. The rest of the team ran creditably in the conditions. Thanks go to the volunteers {especially Brian & Maureen} who marked the course very well, marshaled, made tea and tidied up!

Despite the very strong winds, a large field of 233 runners gave it a go. Danny led the first mile into the wind, then got dropped by the pack with the following wind behind them. All runners struggled with the winds and with Steve Surridge and Dey Wilson missing, Rob getting back to fitness, the Club struggled on the day to get 8th.
